Blue Carbon Realization

In the “Fishery Waste Resource Utilization Composting Project” implemented by the town of Shakotan, Hokkaido prefecture. Sea urchin shells, which were previously disposed of as general waste, are converted into organic matter and returned to the sea as an effective fertilizer for the creation of seaweed beds. Sea urchin shell fertilizer has the potential to realize the keywords of environmental and industrial issues: recycling-based reproduction, sustainable fishing, ecosystem conservation, zero emissions, and blue carbon.
At Maruwazu, we are working to spread this wonderful technology not only in Japan but also throughout the world.
