The Five Nordic Countries Showcase the Appeal of Their Seafood at the Osaka-Kansai Expo

The Osaka-Kansai Expo, which had been held over the course of six months, came to a close recently, drawing farewells from countless visitors.

During the Expo, a seafood promotion event was organized by the five Nordic countries. Government officials and representatives from food companies participated, introducing their food industries and unique initiatives through seminars. In addition, special lunches were served by renowned local chefs.

On the same day, a tasting event was held at a nearby hotel, where participants sampled a variety of products—including seafood, meat, agricultural goods, confectionery, and dairy products—as part of promotional efforts. This year marked the 40th anniversary of the creation of salmon sushi, and to commemorate the milestone, the Nordic countries presented dishes such as salmon marinades and rillettes, drawing much attention. Exhibits also featured sliced products of Greenland halibut, mackerel, and salmon, ideal for sushi toppings and carpaccio, attracting strong interest from attendees.

The Expo is expected to serve as a catalyst for further culinary and cultural exchange centered on the bountiful seafood of the Nordic seas.
